Up here on the Moors, the grouse have become increasingly vocal and the lapwings are returning in greater numbers by the day. It is that wonderful time of year when we have cold nights and warm sunshine during the day, especially at the moment under this large anticyclone. There are still large patches of old snow which have been around for a month now ~ the snow that fell in late January drifted so deeply that it will be a few more weeks before these patches melt out. This morning I was out early for the old snow, the frost and the fog that rolled up Fryupdale as it drifted in from the cold North Sea.
